Verification & Validation — Lesson 8

The following tables compare the results from analytical calculations with Ansys simulation.

The solutions are reasonable because there are several factors ignored in the analytical equations. For example, there is a closed end on the actual cylinder which was not taken into consideration when deriving the analytical equations; the moment arm is not applied to the tangential axis of the cylinder; and the stiffness of the suspension arms was never incorporated. Therefore, the Ansys simulation did give a reasonable result and can be confidently used to simulate torsional properties of composite geometries.
