The FDTD Method

In this video lesson, you will how the finite-difference time-domain (FDTD) method is used to numerically solve Maxwell's equations. You will also learn through a simple example the difference between wave optics and ray-tracing tools.

Solver Numerics

The FDTD method solves Maxwell's equations on a discrete spatial and temporal grid. In this video lesson, you will learn how each field component is solved within the grid cell (Yee cell) and how data is collected from it.
