 width= width=This course covers the fundamental concepts of impulse momentum and the sweet spot in sports equipment. The course begins with the explanation of the sweet spot, a point on a bat or racket where the effort to hold the equipment is minimal when the ball is hit. This is illustrated using the example of a rod fixed on an axle with a force acting on it. The course then delves into the concept of impulse momentum formulation, a different approach based on Newton's laws of motion. This is demonstrated using a scalar formulation of Newton's law and a practical example of a block sliding up an inclined plane under the action of a time-varying force. The course further explores impulse momentum in angular motion, using the example of a thin hoop rolling from left to right. The course also covers impulse momentum formulations in the context of a billiards game, explaining how a high magnitude force, acting for a short period of time, can cause significant changes in the momentum of an object. Lastly, the course discusses the principles of motion and friction using the example of a billiards ball, exploring the impact of force on the ball, the natural forces acting on the ball due to friction, and the concept of slipping and no-slip rolling condition.
