This video lesson starts with the definition of power expended by external forces on a body. Using the Cauchy and Gauss Divergence theorems, a volumetric integral expression for the external power is developed. The expression is further manipulated, and other theorems applied, such as the Reynolds transport theorem, to the end of deriving a reduced form of the first law of thermodynamics.
