Firefighters work always at the edge, putting their lives at risk to contain fire, save lives and protect us. The water-guns and hoses that they use are relatively simple tools but they involve complex physics that can be analyzed with the governing equations of fluid dynamics. The water passing through these tools, the strength of the exiting jet and the way it interacts with the fire and suppresses it, can be analyzed by using the principles of conservation of mass, momentum and energy.
Here we are going to explore the physical laws that govern fluid motion and their physical meaning.
