Heat Transfer on a Flat Plate: Turbulent — Homework

Overview

The flow over a flat plate is a very common simplification used to derive experimental correlations to be used in the analysis of complex problems such as flows over airplane wings or turbine blades. Most of these industrial flows are turbulent and, as a result, they exhibit different heat transfer characteristics compared to laminar flows. This homework problem is an extension of the simulation example on Heat Transfer in Flat Plate – Laminar.

Objectives

In this homework problem, you will learn how to set up, simulate and analyze the turbulent flow over a flat plate using Ansys Fluent, with a focus on understanding the heat transfer characteristics.

Setup

Download the Mesh file required for setting up the simulation and associated Case & Data files here. Follow the instructions below to set up this simulation in Ansys Fluent starting with the Mesh file. In case you face any issues setting up or running the simulation, refer to the corresponding initial and final Case and Data files.
