Ansys Q3D Solution Setup — Lesson 3

This lesson teaches the different types of solvers present in Q3D. It provides a detailed analysis of the solvers along with their respective simulation workshops and simulation zip files.

This lesson consists of one lecture and three workshops.

The lecture provides the basic knowledge of three different solver types present in Q3D. Those are:

  • CG solver
  • DC RL
  • AC RL 

All three solvers are different in terms of mesh creation, convergence settings and results, but they all have a common thing — they calculate either resistance or conductance.


Workshop 3.1

This workshop covers the simulation aspects of the touchscreen. The outline for this workshop is as follows: 
Open AEDT Q3D >> open touchscreen archived file >> set material threshold >> auto identify nets >> set length-based meshing >> set HPC >> create a CG analysis solution setup >> validate and simulate >> view capacitance matrices.  


Workshop 3.2

This workshop covers the simulation aspects of THYbars CG solution setup. The outline for this workshop is as follows: 
Open AEDT Q3D >> open THYbars archived file >> assign copper material >> auto identify nets >> create a CG solution with default settings >> perform first simulation >> view capacitance matrices >> tighten mesh tolerance >> perform second simulation >> compare capacitance matrices. 


Workshop 3.3

This workshop covers the simulation aspects of THYbars CG lossy sweep. The outline for this workshop is as follows: 
Open AEDT Q3D >> open THYbars archived example >> add a three part sweep >> perform first simulation – lossless sweep >> plot constant capacitance over frequency >> rescale vertical axis on capacitance >> change dielectric >> perform second simulation -lossy dielectric >> view lossy sweep over frequency
