# Boundaries in Sim Space Using Ansys HFSS — Lesson 2

Boundaries are required to bifurcate two different regions. This lesson teaches how boundary assignment can divide a design into different computational volumes. It provides information about different types of boundaries in Ansys HFSS.

This lesson consists of one lecture and two workshops.

This lecture covers theoretical aspects of boundary assignment in Ansys HFSS. It provides detailed information about Open Region, Perfectly Matched Layer (PML), FE-BI, etc. It tells how boundaries can be assigned to 3D solids and 2D sheets.

### Workshop 2.1

This workshop covers the simulation aspects of a patch antenna with open region boundary conditions. The outline for this workshop is as follows:
open AEDT >> open rect inset fed patch antenna design >> add radiation boundary >> simulate it >> view S parameter

### Workshop 2.2

This workshop covers the simulation aspects of a coaxial bend with finite conductivity boundary conditions. The outline for this workshop is as follows:
open AEDT >> open coax bend design >> simulate it >> view S parameter >> change outer object material from vacuum to finite conductivity >> simulate it >> compare the results
