Hierarchy in Ansys HFSS 3D Layout — Lesson 6

Hierarchy appears in everyday simulations as basic as a single circuit simulation schematic. The schematic is the top level of hierarchy and calls for various components. A hierarchy can have multiple levels. A schematic can instantiate another schematic hierarchically.

This lesson consists of one lecture and two workshops.

Lecture

The lecture covers the theoretical aspects of hierarchy in HFSS 3D layout by covering multiple level hierarchy, project hierarchy and HFSS model hierarchy.

Workshop 1

This workshop covers the simulation aspects of a differential via eye diagram model in HFSS 3D layout and its analysis. The outline for this workshop is as follows:

Simulate differential via >> add circuit >> add hierarchy >> add circuit elements >> specify bit pattern >> add TDR Nexxim simulation setup >> plot eye diagram and transient.

Workshop 2

This workshop covers the simulation aspects of a differential via TDR model in HFSS 3D layout and its analysis. The outline for this workshop is as follows:

Simulate differential via >> add circuit >> add hierarchy >> add circuit elements >> add grounds and TDR specifications >> analyze >> remove via stubs and resimulate.
